HUMP! Presents Afro-Latin Soul! with Ephraim Owens (Event Over)
Every Friday night, resident DJ’s Resinthol and Paco team up with percussionist El Cocinero to bring some soul to the end of an Austin work week during their weekly HUMP! event at Plush. It’s never been about the glitz of nightlife, but rather the gathering of friends and welcoming of guests to an atmosphere built on a foundation of classic funk, disco, and boogie.
People come to HUMP! to dance, which is rare in Austin
these days. There is no feeling of exclusivity. In fact, it’s
just the opposite… All are welcome and the music selection
follows the mood of the crowd. All you have to do is join the
party, let the music hit home, and let the boogie take control.
It’s common to find guest like Tigre Liu and Claude 9 of Afrofreque stop in and lend some of their own soul to the music. Other frequent guests include JJ Lopez and DJ Rise from San Antonio, sax player Reverend Pain, and DJ Supafly.
On Friday, September 5th, the spirit of music collaboration continues with the addition of world-renowned jazz artist Ephraim Owens on trumpet to celebrate a night of Afro-Latin Soul… a tribute so-to-speak. Resinthol and Paco are hosting the evening and El Cocinero is playing a special opening DJ set before moving over to percussion. Tigre Liu (Starlynx, Afrofreque) will be lending his voice as the master of ceremonies throughout the night.
Plush is located at 617 Red River St. in downtown Austin. Its free before 11 and $5 afterward. Visit HUMP!’s MySpace page to befriend and learn more.
